farm market (4)

If you’ve ever been to Reflections Killalea Reserve, on the NSW South Coast, you’ll know why it’s so special. The views. The walks. And of course, the surfing.

But have you tried the shopping?

Set amongst the grounds of Reflections Killalea Reserve, the monthly Farm’s Market at Killalea Reserve  (held the first Sunday of the month) are proving there’s more to Killalea than hitting the waves.

Here’s five reasons you need to visit this popular market.

1. The atmosphere

Sure, there are plenty of markets around these days. But what makes The Farm’s Market special is the chilled, relaxed, ‘you’re welcome to sit here all day’ atmosphere.

“This is not your standard get-in and get-out market,” says Jessica Smith, Market Manager.

“You always see plenty of people lazing about. They’re kicking back on picnic blankets or settling down in chairs to admire the view and listen to great live music,” she says.

And to eat some thoroughly tasty treats … which brings us to the next reason.

2. The food

It’s a good idea to arrive at the Farm’s Market just that little bit hungry.

“When it comes to food, we’ve got all tastes covered. There’s plenty of delicious international cuisine including Lebanese, Turkish, Mexican, Vietnamese and American-style smokehouse,” she said.

“There’s pizza, dumplings, seafood, plus a great range of gluten-free and vegan treats. And speaking of treats, there’s some fantastic dessert stalls, including local micro-dairy The Pines with their famous farm-fresh ice-cream.”

And to wash it all down, local brewer the Illawarra Brewing Co is on hand with their award-winning hand-crafted beers.

3. The shopping

What’s a market without shopping? And these stallholders offer some seriously cool one-of-a-kind pieces for your shopping pleasure. Fashion, flowers, crafts, local produce including honey, cold meats, cheeses and baked goods … we guarantee you won’t leave empty handed.

“We have a great mix of stalls, and we showcase local talents wherever possible. This includes artists offering everything from charcoals and caricatures to watercolours and homewares,” said Jessica.

Jessica also reports her stallholders are a smiley bunch … which brings us to the next reason.

4. The view

Perhaps it’s not so hard to smile when you’re got an incredible ocean view to enjoy.

“The view will simply take your breath away,” says Jessica.

“From locals who are yet to discover our gem, to visitors from out-of-town, this view will literally stop them in their tracks,” she said.

This includes visitors camping at Reflections Killalea Reserve. It’s just a five-minute walk up the hill from the campground.

The view can also be enjoyed by less mobile visitors, including those with strollers, as a lot of the market area is flat.

5. And the other good things

The Killalea Markets have recently banned single-use plastics to reduce their environmental impact.

The market also enlists the help of the Minnamurra Lions Club to manage on-site parking. A gold coin donation is used to help fund charity projects for the club.

That said, you won’t need to park if you stay at Reflections Killalea Reserve. But we still think it’s a good thing to know. :)
